I am

I provide advisory, non-exec and mentoring services to startups, SMEs and growth companies. I offer support to all sectors and have particular experience in media, marketing and technology.

As the founder of ResponseSource I disrupted the public relations software market, creating the number one journalist enquiry service and leading the way in software-as-a-service (SaaS) in the media sector. I’m also co-founder and chair of CSO Futures, a media and events startup in the sustainability sector, founder of JetSpace, which provides flexible office space for SMEs, am non-exec director for helicopter training company Advance Helicopters and have advisory roles in companies including business messaging startup Guild and previously for communications software group Access Intelligence plc. For more background see my biography below.

Daryl Willcox is a media entrepreneur best known for founding the ResponseSource suite of online services for journalists and public relations (PR) people.

Daryl is a former journalist who cut his teeth at local newspapers before studying journalism at the London College of Printing (now known as the London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts, London).

He went on to work in the motor trade press and business technology magazines before freelancing for the business press, including work for national newspapers in the UK. During this time he also taught journalism part-time at the London College of Printing and Goldsmiths College, London.

Frustrated by the lack of technology used to deal with the information overload suffered by journalists Daryl founded his company ResponseSource in 1997, launching the first public online press release wire, the first online media database and the first media request service in Europe.

ResponseSource grew to become one of the largest independent providers of such services in the UK and also had operations in France. The company was acquired by Access Intelligence Plc, owner of communications software company Vuelio, in November 2018. Daryl remained with the combined business for a time in a part-time capacity as Director of Audience Strategy, focused on developing the company’s journalist and influencer networks and advising on business strategy.

Daryl is currently pursuing diverse business interests in media, technology, property and aviation in addition to providing advisory services through Willcox Advisory.

Daryl lives on a small farm in the South East of England. Outside of work Daryl looks after his farm or can sometimes be found flying helicopters or spending time in the mountains.
